My Dear Friends,

You may have heard the tragic news of the death of a child in St Catherine's school in West Drayton, which was in some way related to Swine Flu? As a result of the increasing spread of this disease the Archbishop has written to every parish today advising us of the measures we should take within our own community if there are a number of people affected by this infection locally.

As this is the case we shall, for the present, no longer offer the chalice at Mass. Furthermore we would advise all members of the congregation to receive the host in their hand though naturally people wishing to receive in the more traditional manner may continue to do so.

On a much happier note, many of you will be setting of on your summer holidays very shortly. I hope it will be a happy and holy time for you all, and that you will return truly refreshed.

As Catholics we are 'obliged' and privileged to be at Mass every Sunday; and when we are away this adds an extra dimension to this privilege ~ for everywhere we go there is going to be a Catholic church we can attend.

Certainly what we find may be very different to what we are used to, but such variety reminds us of the universal nature of the Mass and what it means to be a member of a church that is truly ÒCatholic.Ó

It can often be very difficult to find a Catholic church, but let's remember, God never forgets us, so let us not forget Him!

God Bless.
