The Advent Wreath

THE DAY OF THE LORD

Today we rejoice that our long pilgrimage to God's
eternal city, the new Jerusalem will soon be over.
Already, in the words of Isaiah we see 'the mountain
of the Temple of the Lord' etched against the eastern
sky. Let us wake up and stand ready!

My Dear Friends,

Once again we begin the great season of Advent. The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Thus, Advent is far more than simply marking an event in history. It is celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation may be reconciled to God.

Expectation marks the season, and part of that expectation also anticipates judgment the calling of the world to account before God.

Because of these themes, Advent is a time of preparation that is marked by prayer; prayers of devotion and commitment, prayer from those in darkness who await the dawning of a great light.

The "Walk With Me" Advent booklets (in the porch) are ideal for helping us on this journey and I commend them to you. They contain a series of daily prayers and meditations for you to use as part of your own preparation for Christmas.

Finally, there is a list in the porch for our Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch on Monday 17th December. Please sign up as soon as possible!

God Bless.
