My Dear Friends,

Now that the summer holidays are well and truly over, and we are all back at work or school, our church is often full to overflowing!

This is wonderful, but it does mean that the volume of noise often becomes quite over-whelming, and this can be a real problem when we are trying to pray.

Today's gospel reminds us of how welcoming we must be to the children in our midst, and I hope we are. We cannot expect them to fully understand what is going on at Mass, but it is our task to help them to learn about God's house and how to pray.

Furthermore there will be times when they do not settle down and then we need to be understanding and see how we can help. For some time I have been trying to organise a crèche for our smaller children and I would value your advice and help.

Finally of course, our children look to us for example. Let our time in church be joyful and reverential. Let us talk to God before and during Mass and to each other afterwards!

So far I have only received one 'red box' for the annual APF missionary appeal. I know there are at least 30 more out there. Don't forget you can return them after Mass or to the presbytery at any time.

God Bless.
