The Advent Wreath

OUR BAPTISM WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND FIRE

May the Lord who gave us this baptism purify us
in our celebration today; for he can brook nothing
that lacks integrity. Then through the Spirit of our
Baptism, we will be able to give God the glory

My Dear Friends,

We listen this weekend to the call of John the Baptist, who reminds us that this season of Advent is a time of preparation that is marked by prayer; prayer from those in darkness who await the dawning of a great light.

Every Sunday at 7 pm a small group of parishioners are meeting to pray and mediate together on what the scriptures are saying to them. They are using the "Walk With Me" Advent booklets (some still available in porch) to help them. The booklets contain a series of daily prayers and meditations for us to use as preparation for Christmas.

The prayer group would be very happy for you to join them in our weekday Mass chapel. Ask yourself: how am I getting ready spiritually for the feast of the Incarnation?

As a parish we are very involved in raising money to send our young people to Lourdes as Red Caps, but of equal importance is the Diocesan fund-raising to help the sick get there as well.

The largest event in helping to do this is the Christmas Concert of Carols and Readings advertised at the bottom of our newsletter. It is always a wonderful evening and naturally I shall be going. Tickets will be available at the door, but can also be obtained from me. Do consider coming along please!

God Bless.
