My Dear Friends,

Every year 200,000 abortions are carried out in England, Wales and Scotland and this weekend, the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Abortion Act, is an important moment for reflection, it gives us all an opportunity to seek to cherish human life and to support women in difficult circumstances.

As you go out of Mass you will be given a letter, written by Cardinal Cormac and Cardinal O'Brien in which they urge society to reject abortion and choose life and which stresses that we, the Catholic Church are determined to give voice to the silent cry for love and recognition that belongs to every human life. The law affects attitudes, but it does not itself compel anyone to have an abortion. Even without a change in the law the abortion rate could fall dramatically if enough minds and hearts were changed. Please pray about this matter and read the letter carefully.

Finally, we have once again had complaints about inconsiderate parking at weekend Masses! Please do NOT park in the roadway opposite the church, this is strictly for the residents in the flats; let us be courteous and considerate to our neighbours.

God Bless.
