The Presentation of the Lord - February 2nd.

THE CHURCH AS PROPHET OF GOD

We are privileged to be called by God to be his prophets;
to take his words on our lips and proclaim them to the world.
But the gift of prophecy is of no avail without the gift of love;
a Christ-lke love of the world which is proof even against the world's rejection of us.

My Dear Friends,

Fr. Chris Vipers, the Director of Vocations in our Diocese, is also the co-ordinator of the World Youth Day Pilgrimage to Sidney, Australia in 2008, and he has asked me to bring that event to your attention.

Preparations are already well underway, and following the enormous success of Cologne 2005, a group of pilgrims will be representing our diocese for this exciting trip. Although the date may seem a long way off, our advice is to start saving up now.

This weekend sees the official diocesan launch of World Youth Day 2008, and as you go out of Mass today you will be invited to take a specially produced card.

Even if the event has nothing to do with you, please consider taking a card and handing it on to a youngster whom you feel might be interested.

I was privileged to be at the World Youth Day some years ago, and it was one of the most profoundly moving experiences of my life. The high point was the Mass with the Holy Father. There were 2 million young people at that and their witness to their Catholic faith was truly amazing! We have such committed young people in our community, let us encourage them to consider going in 2008.

God Bless.

FEAST OF ST. BLASE

As a result of a wonderful cure of a boy who had a fishbone in his throat and who was in danger of choking to death, it is St Blase whom we invoke for the traditional blessing of throats. This blessing will be given at the end of the morning Mass this Saturday: his feast day.

KNIGHTS OF ST. COLUMBA
