"I will make you Fishers of Men."

by Simon Dewey

Christ Makes Us His Apostles

We are utterly unworthy to be the apostles of Christ
and yet he sends us out to be fishers of men.
He cleanses us from our sins and gives us the strength to say:
'Here I am, Lord, send me.'

My Dear Friends,

In just a few weeks time, we shall once again begin the season of Lent ~ Ash Wednesday is the 21st February! With this in mind the Diocesan Agency for Evangelisation has produced a Lent faith sharing resource, A Holy Nation, that it hopes we will all find useful.

Each booklet includes daily meditations and reflections which can be used in small groups and/or individually. Each of the daily meditations and the group sessions is supported by a variety of church documents as well as by the Catechism of the Catholic Church and every session concludes with prayer.

The booklet (which is on sale from this weekend) runs from the First Sunday of Lent until Holy Saturday. Each of the weekly sessions begins with prayer around the cross, for after all it is the cross that stands at the heart of the season.

I do hope that a number of us will want to be part of such sessions, so with this in mind I have placed a list in the porch for you to sign, so that such groups can be well established before the season begins.

Furthermore, to help us focus on the cross in the 40 days of Lent, I would invite you to bring a cross or crucifix to Mass on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday (18th Feb). There they will be solemnly blessed, in a special service produced by the Liturgy Commission, to be a focus in your own home during the season.

God Bless.
