JESUS IS LORD

Today we praise God for the marvellous things he did for
our fathers, with his mighty hand and outstretched arm.
What he did for them he still does for us, in Jesus the Lord
who conquered sin and death.

My Dear Friends,

Last Wednesday we began the season of Lent, and it was good to see so many coming to be 'ashed'. Now we shall journey on together towards the 'greatest week' of the Christian year.

Traditionally the Church asks us to focus on three things during this season: fasting, penance and almsgiving, and for this reason we always observe a "Family Fast Day" during these 40 days. This allows us to combine all three of these Lenten disciplines.

This weekend, we are glad to welcome to our parish speakers from CAFOD, who will not only help us do this, but will also help us to understand more about their important and life giving work.

We have a great tradition of generosity here at St Gregory the Great - as witnessed by our recent collection for Haiti. CAFOD invites us to fast as an act of solidarity with the poor and to donate what we have saved to help the disadvantaged of our world. So be sure to take a Fast Day envelope home with you and return it to Mass next Sunday.

Finally do consider what you can do to grow in faith during this Lenten season. A weekday celebration of Mass, Stations of the Cross, Adoration, Lent Study, private prayer and meditation. Truly let us sanctify these 40 days so that we may be more worthy to celebrate the victory of the resurrection.

God Bless.
