Our Shepherd-King In This Valley of Darkness

We walk in the darkness of this world, often assailed
by fear and misgiving. But Christ, the Shepherd-King,
the second David, lights up our way for us and cures our
congenital blindness as he leads us to his kingdom.
He alone is our boast.

My Dear Friends,

In a rare clash of dates on the Church's calendar, 17th March (St Patrick's Day) falls on the second day of Holy Week this year, preventing, by canon law, the saints day being marked then.

The last time it happened was in 1940 when it fell on Palm Sunday and the shamrock and the palm were displayed together, but the feast itself was moved to 3rd April. Such a clash will not happen again until 2160!!

This time, however, the Irish bishops have sought a more timely compromise, opting for Saturday 15th March for the saints day to be kept. Please note that we will follow their lead and Mass on that Saturday morning will be of St Patrick. Perhaps someone could arrange a little "coffee" in the hall afterwards?

Today is "Mothering Sunday". The day on which we give thanks for our three mothers - our own mum, our mother the Church, and our Blessed Mother Mary. Let us not forget them on their special day!

Finally I do hope that many of us have taken the opportunity of writing to our MP about the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill? It is not to late and the issue remains of the gravest importance. Copies of the Cardinal's letter are still available in the porch.

God Bless.

P.S. - As a result of your kindness, we were able to send over £600 to CAFOD. Thank you.
