My Dear Friends,

You may well be asking yourself what this curious little line drawing is all about? Today is the feast of the Epiphany, sometimes known as the Revelation or 'showing' of Christ to the Gentiles. It commemorates the visit of the Wise Men to the manger and is celebrated in many areas of the world with far greater solemnity than Christmas Day!

This was also the case in England before the Reformation. It was customary for the head of each household to mark the doorway of the family home with chalk on this feast day of the Epiphany. This tradition symbolized the family's commitment to welcome Christ into their homes on a daily basis throughout the year. The father took the chalk and wrote on the lintel of the front door: AD 20+C+M+B+08 which stands for "Anno Domini 2008 -- Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar" and means "the three Holy Kings, Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar, in the year of Our Lord, 2008" are protecting this house against all evil.

If you would like to offer this blessing for your home this year, do ask me for a copy of the special blessing prayers.

Finally on Wednesday 20th February there is to be a day conference at Northwood College, Maxwell Road, entitled "Alzheimer's - Adjusting to Loss." Sadly I am unable to go myself, but am very keen for the to be represented. The parish would be very glad to sponsor someone to go on our behalf and report back. If you are interested, please speak to me as soon as possible - thanks.

God Bless.

OUR LADY OF BANNEUX

(75th Anniversary Year) There is to be a special Mass at St. Joseph's, Wealdstone on11th Jan. at 7.15 pm - all are welcome. Refreshments after Mass

EVE BROADWAY (RIP)

The tragic death of Eve Broadway - housekeeper at Our Lady of Fatima, White City, just before Christmas, was a devastating blow to the community there. As Eve was known to a number of us, I am sure many would wish to know the funeral arrangements: Reception into church - Wednesday 9th - Mass at 7 pm. Funeral Mass at 9.45 am on Thursday 10th January

DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

2008 is the 150th Anniversary of Our Lady's appearing to St Bernadette, and is therefore a highly significant year for the shrine at Lourdes. As usual the diocese will be going on pilgrimage there at the end of July. If you are interested in joining our parish group be sure to take a booking form home with you today.

DON'T FORGET! THERE IS COFFEE IN THE PARISH HALL AFTER THE MORNING MASS ON SUNDAY.
SEE YOU THERE!!
