    My Dear Friends,

Over the last few years I have been sharing this curious little line drawing with you, and I feel sure it is worth me reminding you of its significance again. This Sunday we keep the feast of the Epiphany, sometimes known as the Revelation of Christ to the Gentiles. It commemorates the visit of the Wise Men to the manger and is celebrated in many areas of the world with greater solemnity than Christmas Day, for this day marks the beginning of Christ's "outreach" to those beyond the boundaries of Judaism - the Gentile world!

On this feast day it is customary for the head of each household to mark the doorway of the family home with chalk in the was shown. This tradition symbolized the family's commitment to welcoming Christ into their homes throughout the year. The father wrote on the lintel: AD 20+C+M+B+10 which stands for "Anno Domini 2010 -- Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar" and means "the three Holy Kings, in the year of Our Lord, 2010" are protecting this house against all evil.

If you would like to offer this blessing for your home this year, do ask me for a copy of the special blessing prayers.

Please note the slight alteration to our Mass schedule this week. This is due to the fact that I am conducting a funeral in south London on Wednesday.

Finally, I would like to draw to your attention to a beautiful exhibition, which is on at the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery - The Sacred Made Real. It is a truly moving display of Spanish Polychromatic Religious art and although not cheap to get in, it is well worth doing so, but be sure to take the audio guide as well!! I'm going again!

    God Bless.
