My Dear Friends
This weekend the Church prays for the peace of the world, and we are all offered the opportunity to reflect on the Holy Father's message for this day.
The theme he has chosen this year is "Educating Young People in Justice and Peace." Pope Benedict has repeatedly condemned violence in God's Name, and this month he calls on us to dedicate ourselves through prayer and action to bear witness to the world that the name of Christ means peace.
Praying and working for peace is essential to spreading the Gospel. Christians dedicated to peace are a powerful witness to the world that the true face of God is Christ. Jesus told the apostles at the Last Supper: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you."
There are two further things that I would wish to share with you this weekend. Firstly there are an increasing number of elderly people who need help getting to Mass; yet all they require is a lift! Surely there are those among us who could 'lend a hand' to sort this out? This is an urgent request so please speak to me as soon as possible if you can help.
Secondly, many of you will be aware that the church was broken into on the night of the 1st/2nd January. The internal damage will hopefully be covered by our insurance, but the outer doors will need to be replaced completely to make the hall more secure and this will not be covered by insurance. Inevitably this will result in considerable expense so I will keep you posted as to how we will try to raise the money! Thankfully not much was taken and the damage could have been a lot worse.
God Bless.

WHITE FLOWER APPEAL
This Sunday we will be having our regular appeal for the work of SPUC. The Society for the Protection of the Unborn. "White Flowers" will be available at every Mass
